The Executive Branch

The executive branch is made up of the president, the vice president, the cabinet, the executive office of the president, and the federal agencies.

The President

The president is elected by the electoral college and must be a born U.S. citizen and at least 35 years of age. The president can serve for two four-year terms. The president is our symbolic leader of the country, the commander-in-chief, the person who runs the federal agencies, the one who appoints justices, and is our head diplomate for negotiating with other countries.

The Vice President

The vice president will take over if the president is unable to serve in office as well as being the president of the senate. At times, the president will give the vice president issues or problems to work on.

The Cabinet

There are 15 executive departments in the cabinet. They handle the broader areas of national policy.

EOP

The executive office includes teams such as the white house staff and the national security council. They help the president with communications and security.

Federal agencies

The federal agencies include the FBI, CIA, EPA, CDC, IRS and NASA. They are the groups who do lots of the behind the scenes work in the government.
